All About Lynn
Hi, Welcome to my page. Let me tell you a little about myself.
I was born in Scotland, grew up there, went to college there, and studied nursing.
I married an American military man and moved to the U.S.A. in the 1980's. After a year or two we began a family, and my journey into child development began. Like many young mothers, I didn't want to work outside the home, especially since my military husband was frequently deployed. So I began babysitting, which lead to opening a home based childcare. This was a perfect business for a military wife: portable, allowing me to work from home, and allowing me to support other military moms by providing care for their little ones. I love "my " children and formed many strong bonds with their families.
However, after 10 years and three children, my marriage unfortunately ended in divorce. I was glad that I had chosen a career that allowed me, as a single parent, to work from home. I loved all the children who came into my life. I took great joy in watching them learn and grow. I took many, many continuing education classes in Child Development and Early Childhood Education.
Then a few years later I remarried. My second husband was also in the military, so my travels began again as we moved every 2-3 years. During the years that followed we had two more children, and I operated child care homes in Connecticut, California, Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina, and Virginia. Also during this time I took a job outside the home, and became a pre-school teacher for the YMCA Pre-School program. There I discovered a love for Early Childhood Education in a classroom setting. Of course, being a military family, we were still moving frequently. So for the next few years I was either employed as a pre school teacher, or running a home based child care. Over the years I took literally hundreds of hours of Early Childhood Education and Child Development classes, and also earned my Child Development Associate Credential. ( The CDA is know as "The Gold Standard for Early Childhood Certification" programs.) That marriage ended a few years ago, and most of my children are now off to college or moving on with their own lives, so it was time for me to put down some more permanent roots. I bought an old farmhouse that was a perfect location for a home based childcare, and this is where I now operate my business.
I have to say that it is not just the education that I have received, but the life experience that I have gained in raising my own children, that led me to form a comprehensive approach to caring for children. My own children faced many difficulties growing up - such as genetic birth defect requiring brain and spinal surgery, educational challenges, moving (the life if a military family) and divorce, to name just a few. Yet despite difficult times, they are now all happy, successful, kind and productive members of society. I am very proud of them!!
I am excited to be able to put my training and education to use in running my family child care home. It is my goal to help parents provide the BEST start in life that we can for their precious little ones. I firmly believe that the first 5yrs of life are developmentally the most important time in a child's life. The belief that the child forms, about themselves and the world, in these milestone years, will help to shape their future.
It is my goal for your child to receive a nurturing and strengthening foundation in the early years, that will provide them with all they need to create their own wonderful life in the future.
If you choose me as your child care provider, I will be honored to be part of that journey.
